How To See the Future (Of Trends)

This morning, I tweeted a glib little thing:

But the more I thought about it, the more I thought I wasn’t that far off the mark! Witness:

Vogue, 1992. Yup, we’ve got grunge back.

Jarvis Cocker (of Pulp) in 1996. Could be at any bar, anywhere, this weekend. Then posted on Instagram.

Ugh you guys I loved this movie so much! But I don’t love the resurgence in crop tops.

So, that got me to thinking… What other 1990s trends were there that haven’t as yet made a comeback, but might?

A few ideas:

  • Girls shaving their heads. We’re halfway there!
  • To that end, women once again requesting the “Rachel” at the salon.
  • Clunky, clunky Mary Janes. Oh wait, those never went away. For some reason.
Some pictures of things!

Wouldn’t it be nice to see a return to the classics? Like this killer Versace suit?

Dear girl on the left, you are taking the “no-pants” thing a little too literally & a little too far. Also, girl in the middle, please explain your pants to me.

I really don’t know where to start. Let’s leave out the obvious (TWINSIES), & talk about: a) leather chaps; b) vaguely Aboriginal necklace; c) pink warm-em-ups suits. Discuss.

Okay. We may have already gleaned all the good from the 1990s, you guys. I think it may be time to move on.

Girls shaving their heads – wait, does that mean that I’m actually ahead of the curve? ;)

      Yes! You totally are!

acutally, you’re right on time… Sinead O’Connor shaved her head for the first time for her 1990 album “I Do No Want What I Haven’t Got”, starting a trend of shaved headed women in the alternative/punk/alternative community

That is not Jarvis Cocker in the 90s but Jarvis Cocker in 2006-7.

Thanks for pointing out my blunder! I’ve edited the post to include a photo of him from RAWMagazine in 1996.
